About us
Wild birds have always fascinated us with their survival strategies linked with flight ability. Flying allows them to use the environment in unique ways. On this site we want to share our results of bird tracking using GPS/GSM loggers and present bird spatiotemporal activities unsuspected ever before.
We started bird telemetry in 2014 focusing on several species of raptors in Czech Republic and Slovakia and continue installing tracking devices in these two countries. In 2017 we started tracking Black Kites in Bulgaria. We use combined GPS/GSM loggers from Ecotone. Possitions of birds are acquired by GPS (global position system) and sent via SMS (short message service) using GSM (global system for mobile communication) network to Ecotone headquarters in Poland. Data are stored there and available to view or download to users. Birds are tagged for scientific purposes and in full compliance with local authorities. We also track birds from wildlife rescue centers to verify effectivness of releasing recovered raptors.
To simply visualise the spatiotemporal activities of tracked birds we plot the movement information to maps. We have tagged these bird species so far: White-tailed Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Red Kite, Black Kite, Saker Falcon.
Bird positions are updated on monthly basis.
